5 Ways To Enjoy The Snow On Mt. Hood

Mt. Hood is the perfect winter destination for everyone, from hardcore skiers to families looking for a fun day in the snow. Skiing and snowboarding might be some of the most popular activities, but there are also other ways to enjoy the snow, such as snowmobile, snowshoe and cross-country skiing guided tours, as well as tubing, sledding, and snowball fights. After a day of exploring, you can relax in a historic lodge, mountain resort or a snowy cabin.

In addition to winter sports, there are countless options of things to do on Mt. Hood, such as visiting great restaurants in the Villages of Mt. Hood and exploring historic museums in Government Camp. You can easily spend a few days up here and enjoy something different each day.

1. Take a tour with Mt. Hood Outfitters

Mt. Hood Outfitters is the leading recreational outfitter and guide service for Mt. Hood, offering snowmobile, snowshoe and cross-country ski tours. All tours are interpretive as guests learn about the area’s history, geology, cultures and animals. Accomplished and friendly guides lead unforgettable adventures for all experience levels. In addition to tours Mt. Hood Outfitters also offers gear rentals if you prefer to head out on your own.

2. Cosmic Tubing at Mt. Hood Skibowl

Cosmic Tubing is the best party on the mountain! Enjoy more than 600,000 LED lights, laser light shows, black lights, colored lights and rocking music while tubing. And don’t bother walking up the hill with that big tube, just jump on Mt. Hood's only conveyor lifts dedicated to tubing, and relax all the way to the top. Great fun for the whole family, including kids. And, since Skibowl is America’s largest night-ski area, you can also hit the slopes late into the night.

3. Night Skiing at Mt. Hood Skibowl

That's right, Mt. Hood Skibowl takes the honors for being the single largest night skiing area in the country and therefore, the best night skiing offered in Oregon! All lifts, including the Multorpor, Upper Bowl, Lower Bowl and Cascade lifts have lighting that provides 36 lit runs for you to experience.

4. Snow tubing and sledding at Summit Pass

Located in Government Camp, Summit Pass, formerly known as Summit Ski Area, is part of Timberline Ski Area. Since 1927 Summit has provided family friendly winter recreation options. In addition to being the first ski area established on Mt. Hood, they also offer snow tubing.

Summit Pass also operates Snow Bunny Sliding Area Sno-Park. There, you may bring personal sledding devices, such as toboggans, sleds and tubes.

5. Ski and snowboard lessons at Timberline Lodge & Ski Area

Have you always wanted to learn how to ski or snowboard? Then learn at where the pros come to ski and snowboard: Timberline Lodge. Instructors can help beginners get the skills they need to confidently tackle Timberline’s famous runs. And considering that Timberline has the longest ski season in all of North America, you’ll have plenty of time to take advantage of all those new skills you just developed.

Travel Tip: Visit Midweek For Deals

Once the snow arrives, Mt. Hood can be a popular destination. If you’d like fewer people around, visiting midweek (Mon–Thurs) is a great way to minimize the wait times at the chair lifts and the best spots to eat. Another perk of traveling midweek? Many lodging properties and activities offer discounts on those days.
